A Season for Prayer

Thanks to all those who participated with us Saturday morning in prayer.  We began to pray for our nation, church and world.  We sense this month needs to be a season of repentance, not only personally, but on behalf of the nation that has drifted away from God.

Here is a portion of what we prayed:

The integrity and accuracy of the November election.

Corrupt, self-serving leaders to be exposed and removed.

Daniel’s prayer of intercession in his chapter nine.

Leaders of integrity to be in positions of authority.

Restore the true history and spiritual foundation of America.

Removal of specific cultural sins such as abortion.

A great example of national repentance comes from President Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address.  As one author said, “Lincoln cited Scripture four times, invoked prayer three times, and mentioned God fourteen times in just 701 words.”  Here is a portion: Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray, that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet if God wills that it continue, until all the wealth piled by the bond-man’s two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said, the judgments of the Lord, are true and righteous altogether.… With malice toward none; with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation’s wounds…

Sadly, sins like abortion have replaced slavery as a stain on our national character.  May there be breakthroughs soon on that front.  There will always be sin, but “only those nations whose God is the Lord are blessed.”

Father, we pray that this culture war will speedily pass away.  Restore order to our cities, Lord.  Expose and stop radicals from fomenting violence and hijacking civil rights for their own purposes.  But, more than that we ask that you restore Godly order to our national morality.

We pray for truth to win out over propaganda in the media war.  

We pray for religious freedom to win out over tyranny of local governments.  

We pray for repentance and revival among your people.  

We pray for souls to turn and be saved and rescued from this present, “corrupt generation”. (Acts 2:40)

May believers have an equal mixture of love and truth as we represent God to the world around us.  

Lord, Jesus, may your name be lifted high as the only one who saves!
