Who is in charge of our culture today? Apparently the loudest voices. Politicians and media have the microphone and are trying to dictate what every American should think. This is propaganda, not “wokeness.” What we need is a spiritual awakening from God. God, unlike the changing fads of culture, is the Truth and He is Absolute!
At a recent conference, American Family Radio host Alex McFarland shared some apt reminders from the Book of Acts. These truths can help us through a trying time, remembering that God once used a small group of people to change the world through the early church:
- Acts reminds us that God is Sovereign over the world. He is in control. Don’t let breaking news break your heart. It will change anyway.
- Acts reminds us what the Gospel is; the power to transform lives.
- Acts reminds us that a broken society is an opportunity for the church to bring good news to some who weren’t listening before. (Broke, not woke.)
- Acts renews our understanding of the church’s mission. Jesus didn’t just speak for God, He spoke as God! This is inescapable when you actually read his words!
- The early church faced opposition and we will too.
- Acts reminds us that we can be supernaturally empowered by the Holy Spirit just as the early church was.
Are you tired of “wokeness” where there are no guiding principles or boundaries? Where there is no pleasing of the mob? They come for statues today and then for your beliefs tomorrow.
But we have God’s Word and his authority. It is bounded by truth and love in equal measure. Instead of misguided compassion, it offers healing for brokenness, to change people from victims to victors! The Bible offers God’s plan for true justice, rather than human definitions of it. If this is the final harvest, as many believe, then we need to “go for broke” with the gospel.
Let us offer Jesus and the Kingdom of God as the true alternative to human ideas of utopia.
Let us pray. God we thank you that we have authority to preach the saving grace of Jesus to a dying generation. Lord, give us opportunities to touch lives, one at a time. We know that there is only one truth that can bring unity out of many different philosophies. We pray for more transformed lives through Jesus.
Lord, we pray that people will be awakened from false dependence on government or science. Let them be hungry for truth that is above the politics of men. Let people realize that You are the source of protection and health. Let us not give up freedom for false promises.
Let us, as believers, not give up meeting together. Ultimate fellowship cannot come from a broadcast or digital device. Remind us that we need each other’s presence in worship.
Remind us when to turn off the media and open up your Word for guidance and comfort.
