“Though I may not understand, all the plans He has for me, my life is in His hands, and through the eyes of faith I can clearly see: God is good all the time!”

So goes the verse of one of my favorite older praise songs. It is based on Isaiah 55:9, 11.

As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth…so is my word that goes out from my mouth; it will not return to me empty.

When it says his ways are higher, it implies that they are better because he knows all things! God’s plans are then communicated through His words and they will do what He intends! His will is accomplished, so His words are not empty!

How do we hear the voice of God? We can know his general will through his written Word, the Bible. We can further know his will through a personal relationship with Jesus, his living Word! Finally, we seek his will through the Holy Spirit. He works in our hearts, through our friends and through open and closed doors. You can probably look back on your life and see doors that were opened, as well as doors that were closed. You can probably also see that sometimes the closed doors led to something better!

I was recently contemplating and praying over something and, in the midst of my concern, I heard the Lord comfort my spirit with the words, “You do your job and I’ll do mine!” Simple words, but a reminder to me not to stress over the situation that I could do little about. The hard part is to be patient and let God work, rather than take a situation into our own hands. In the meantime, we can praise him for his goodness, and think of all the ways he has come through for us in the past. Praise his Name!

“God is good, all the time. He put a song of praise in this heart of mine. God is good all the time, through the darkest night his light will shine, God is good, God is good, all the time.”

Lord, thank you for your will and your Word. May your will be done in our lives. May your Word go forth and accomplish your purpose in us. We thank you that many times, we know you are working despite us not understanding. We affirm that your ways are higher than our ways! You know better than we do! You see all things and you care about the details of our lives! Thank you for the many evidences of your work that we can see in our past. Thank you for continuing your work in us today and in the days to come! We yield our lives and our faith to you, Lord. We thank you that you cause all things to work together for good to those of us who love you and are called according to your purpose. We praise you for your goodness! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
